“The Revs took a chance on me and I can’t thank them enough.”
During the 2018 season, Clayton Adams was willing to push himself towards his goal to play professional soccer. Following his fast rise to Georgia Revolution FC’s first team in 2018, we will get to see that goal achieved. The Revs saw a blonde midfielder with talent take the field and signed him to the Revs Reserves following the 2018 open tryouts. During the 2018 campaign, his play for the Reserves led him to join the first team Georgia Revolution FC where he saw action in three games for the Revs.
Clayton Adams, a native of Warner Robins, started his soccer career as most kids do in the United States’ recreational soccer leagues. “I started playing when I was young in a tiny town called Ozarks, Alabama. Then moved to Arizona when I was 14 and played club ball and then moved to Pennsylvania where I played my only year of High School soccer. I finally ended up in Warner Robins where I played in the Central Georgia Soccer Association.”
Following his days with the CGSA, Adams continued his play in Sunday leagues and Adult leagues until he heard about the Georgia Revolution tryouts. He had heard that Atlanta is where you want to go to become a professional player, but never had the funds to do so. The Revs gave him the opportunity to tryout and with the cost of the tryouts being only $50, he saw the chance to make a team. The only way to describe Clay when it comes down to it, is extremely hardworking and determined. “Once I made the team, it was immediately a family. Everyone wants to support you and help you get better and you honestly know that you are apart of a family with the Revs whether its players, coaching staff; hell even the owner is at practices watching and cheering you on.”
During his time with the Revolution’s second Team, the Revs Reserves, he had seven appearances with five goals and three assists in the 2018 season and his explosiveness on the field was not the only thing catching the eyes of the Revs coaching staff. During his time with the Reserves, Clay gained more technical ability and used his speed as well as his acceleration to get past players and get to goal. This led to his rise to the first team for the Revolution and he’s still not stopping. “It’s all about experience and not about the next level. It’s about where you are now and getting better now with every game, every drill, every practice, and focusing on everything while you’re working with the Reserves or the first team.”
When asked about how the club has treated him during his tenure, “ This club has made leaps and bounds since 2014 and now it’s a real family environment where the supporters know you, your teammates are there for you, and the coaching staff is always supportive. This team is where you have a chance to play and that’s been the best part of this journey.”
Following his stellar play for the Revolution Reserves and first team Revs, Adams was offered a contract to play for the Austin Bold FC as they intend to play in the United Soccer League Championship in their inaugural year in 2019. “My journey with the Revs, especially the NPSL team was more of a mental one than a physical one and it really prepared me for the situations I would face leading up to the contract signing. I think more than anything, it is really a testament to what the Revs are about which is preparing you for the next level and giving you every opportunity to get there.”
We wish Clayton the best of luck and cannot wait to see what the future holds for him!
